Director of Children’s & Family Ministry General Job Description

The Director of Children’s and Family Ministry* shall work under the direction of the Session to oversee the of Children’s and Family Ministry of the Holly Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He or she shall work under the day to day oversight of the Pastor and report to the Session through the Christian Education committee. The Director shall be expected to meet at least quarterly with the Session to inform the elders of the details of the of Children’s and Family Ministry.
Education and Discipleship: The Director shall, with the assistance of the Children’s Ministry Team, have responsibility for leading the church’s ministry to the children and families of our church and community. This shall include Sunday morning educational activities and all other educational and spiritual development opportunities offered to the children of the church and the community. The Director shall assist the Christian Education Committee in reviewing the selection of curriculum, recruitment and training of teachers, and room assignment. He or she shall submit the appropriate items to the Session for approval.
Fellowship and Recreation: The Director shall oversee and encourage the fellowship, athletic and recreation events provided for the children of the church and community.
Evangelism: The Director shall take the leadership in evangelism and outreach to children. He or she shall see that soon after a family with preschool children visits our church that the Director or someone from our children’s ministry visits them. The purpose of this visit shall be to inform the family of the various opportunities we offer their preschool children and to encourage their children to participate.
Family Ministry: The Director, with the assistance of the Children’s Ministry team, shall seek to strengthen and encourage the families of our church and community. This shall include both special and ongoing events that support the family.
Church Calendar: The Director shall be responsible for submitting all children’s activities and events to the Church Secretary so they can be placed on the church calendar and be approved by the Session.
*The Director is responsible for ministry to families will children under the age of 13 years.
Guide Lines for Children’s Ministry Things that you need to do or see that they are done by directors of each age group Preschool/Elementary (1st – 4th) KFC (5th & 6th) Children’s Music Attendance: Attend 8:30 and 11:00 Worship Services Attend Sunday School Assembly at 9:00 am (Helps to build relationships with the children, a time to worship and pray with them) Wednesday night activities Activities for Children Administrative Children’s Ministry Team monthly meetings Christian Education Monthly Committee Meetings Staff Meetings Weekly Session Meetings Attend Children’s Conferences Sunday school Literature Selecting Sunday school Literature Ordering and Distributing Literature Select Summer Literature Teachers Recruiting Teachers Meetings with teachers quarterly Implement training for teachers: Lesson presentation Discipline, motivation, etc. Getting substitutes for teachers Check on ALL classes EACH Sunday Needs for their classes: Make sure Teachers are present, if he/she needs anything for their classes, visitor names
